May Update

Greetings from Project Atchison!

Let me share some good news with you. Our Neighborhood Makeover with Habitat for Humanity was a great success on April 13-15. We had over 45 volunteers work on 7 properties. We had two homes that took up most of our time with projects like: house painting, rebuilding a ramp, rebuilding porch posts, rebuilding steps for a back porch, adding a gravel driveway and lots of trips to the dump with yard waste. Please check our Facebook page for before and after pictures, to be posted soon. What are we up to now?

  • May monthly meeting - Tuesday, May 2, 7pm at the Atchison Event Center (710 S. 9th Street)

  • PorchFest - Saturday, May 6 from 2-6pm - FREE!. Here are some event details:

    • Location - North 4th Street from Unity to Riley and Riley Street from 4th to 5th Streets.

    • Parking - In the neighborhood and at the Atchison Farmer's Market parking lot. The Chamber of Commerce is providing a free trolley from the parking lot to the event and back for the duration of the event.

    • Bands - There will be 21 musical groups/performers that will play from 8 porches in the area. Porches of interest include the Muchnic Art Gallery and the Evah Cray Historical Home Museum. The schedule of bands is available at atchisonporchfest.com

    • Alcohol - Bringing outside alcohol is not permitted, however we will have a beer garden available on Riley Street.

    • Kids activities - We will have two bounce houses (one for younger children and one for older children) and Live Well Atchison will have their gaga ball pit and other family activities.

    • Art - several artists will have art to display and/or sell.

    • Food - We will have several food vendors including: Conchis Cuisine (mexican), Rogue Street Tacos, Pace e Bene (baked goods), and Kitchen 67 (teriyaki chicken).

    • Don't forget to bring a chair or blanket!!

Please let me know if you have questions about any of this! We are still looking for volunteers for PorchFest, so please let me know if you would be interested in helping. Sincerely, Heidi Hulsizer President - Project Atchison
